Blaze Pizza

Blaze Pizza
June 20, 2016 by Nicole Wilkinson

Blaze has only been in Charlotte for about two months, but it is quickly trying to dethrone Queen Bey on the list of things we love. In the short time that it has been open, Blaze has become our go to restaurant to take visiting homies. As if phenomenal pizza wasn't enough, their homemade drinks and desserts are the perfect additions to your meal. The blood orange lemonade is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. So good, in fact, that we usually finish a cup before our pizza even makes it out of the oven.  If you have ever been to &Pizza in D.C., Blaze is very similar, but so much better (in our opinion). Blaze doesn't have the finishing oils like &Pizza but who cares? It's AMAZING. Look at the options!

Bih...so many choices.

Fox's Pick:

  • Build Your Own: Classic red sauce (I make sure they cover all the dough, nobody wants an ashy pizza), mozzarella (don't be stingy), chicken, applewood bacon, chopped garlic, fresh basil, red peppers, sautéed onions, sea salt and oregano.

Nik's Pick:

  • Build Your Own: Spicy red sauce (extra sauce. Dry pizza is criminal), shredded mozzarella (for melty, gooey goodness), ovalini mozzarella (for texture and deliciousness), applewood bacon, fresh basil, roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, sautéed onions, sea salt and oregano. I like to round the meal out with a half gallon of blood orange lemonade, and a s'more. I'm only skinny on the outside.

Price: $8-14

Vibes: Casual, fake workout attire (dad hat, leggings, running shoes, ivy park--if you will) type of spot. Take the homies, or someone that is established and has seen you in your head wrap/du-rag.

Papi Queso - THE GAWD

Papi Queso Food Truck
June 20, 2016 by Nicole Wilkinson

Let's start this review by naming the things that we cherish the most. This will give y'all an idea of how obsessed we are with Papi Queso.

Things we love:

  1. God
  2. Family/Friends
  3. Beyonce/Papi Queso (we honestly couldn't decide between the two. It's that serious.)

After falling in love with Papi Queso, we decided to follow the truck around Charlotte to get grilled cheese at least once a week (they tweet their location daily here). Our obsession has escalated to the point where the lady that takes orders knows us by face (it's embarrassing). We're about one grilled cheese pop up away from being certified stalkers.

The menu changes seasonally, and be sure to ask what is on their hidden menu for the day! As if fire grilled cheese wasn't enough, the bread pudding is AMAZING and the basil lemonade?!?! JESUS.

Niks' Picks - I have so many favorites that it pains me to pick just one, but I'm rolling with the Spanish Ham & Cheese (Sorry Buffalo Chicken and Johnny Pastrami). It has manchego cheese, Jamon Serrano, P'Tit basque, mahon, roasted garlic and a honey quince marmalade. It takes me back to summer 2014, coolin' with my baby sis in Valencia. All I need is a glass of Cava...or three.

Fox's Picks - GET THE APPLE, CHEDDAR, BACON. You won't regret it, I promise. It comes with NC Pink lady apples, aged white cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, dijon and honey. I usually add smoked tomatoes to mine for a little extra flavor. It is generally only available during the summer time :(. I'm positive the ABC is what cheesy heaven tastes like. Fire...all fire.

Price: $5 - $15 (adding on bacon, tomatoes, with chips, and a drink can rack up, ya'll!)

Vibes: It's a food truck and outside, you'll smell like outside. Be prepared to eat standing up or in your car but you'll be satisfied!

Fox & Niks

Seoul Food Meat Co.

Seoul Food Meat Co.
June 20, 2016 by Nicole Wilkinson

Occasionally, we'll document some the fits we wear when trying out dope spots for y'all. We were feeling particularly wavy when we visited Seoul Food so here's a breakdown of what we wore:

Fox's Fit
Hat: Joyrich T-shirt Dress: Adidas Originals Shoes: Adidas *

Niks' Fit
Jacket: Asos Shirt: BP Nordstrom Skirt: Missguided Shoes: Asos

Now for the grub...

Seoul Food might have of the dopest patios in Charlotte. The atmosphere is what draws people here. Picnic tables, craft beer and views of the skyline combine for a true summertime vibe. Seoul Food is a Korean barbecue restaurant with soul food inspiration, which results in a very eclectic menu. The food comes in shareable portions, and the amount of meat available will leave you bloated. Niks and I opted to try nearly everything on the menu, and our fave was definitely the wings. These are probably the biggest chicken wings we've had ever in life, and they were BOMB. Our second favorite menu item was probably the crispy pork belly, which was also delicious.

Spicy & Soy Garlic wings

We also tried Seoul's version of collard greens and their ramen mac n' cheese--an interesting take on the southern staple. Honestly, we were not fans of the Ramen. We've become cheese snobs as of late, and we weren't having the American cheese slapped on Ramen--it took us all the way back to our college struggles. However, it is a unique dish and worth a try if you're in the city!

Price: Pricey AF for smallish portions $$$

Vibes: Summer time fine, nice beer, dope fits, bring a group of friends and cool out. Ladies--find someone that wants to trick off and buy the whole menu. Or buy it out on your own. We love #GirlBosses around here. Fellas--RIP to ya wallet.

Paco's Tacos & Tequila

Paco's Tacos & Tequila
June 20, 2016 by Nicole Wilkinson

Tacos and margs are our stress relievers. Some people go to the gym, others play video games; we get tacos and margaritas. Paco's is one of the most raved about Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte, and with 4/5 stars on Yelp we had to fall through and see what the hype was about. Paco's is located across from SouthPark Mall, right next to a cluster of cute boutiques. Overall, we thought it was a tad over-hyped. The guac was made fresh at our tables, and it was good. However, Bakersfield* arguably has the best guac in America, so it was slow for Paco's.  Overall, the food was decent, but the margaritas were lit! Pacos isn't a gourmet restaurant, but if you want some solid Tex-Mex and good drinks, this is your spot!

*Review coming soon

Niks Picks: I ordered two Tacos Al Pastor, and a Paco's Taco. Mostly because I am obsessed with Tacos Al Pastor, and partially because none of the other tacos sounded thaaaat great. I had a margarita with jalapeños in it which was absolutely delicious, but that's about all I remember about this meal. I only had one marg, so I can't even blame it on the sauce.

Fox's Picks: I ordered three tacos because well, I'm greedy. I order like a pro linebacker but my stomach has the capacity of a toddler. It was a lot of food, bro. I ordered the Wood Grilled Chicken Taco (add avocado ranch on the side), the Paco's Taco, and the Al Pastor. The tacos come with rice and your choice of beans. I had the Texas Mule and I got semi-lit (smh).

Vibes: We wouldn't get too dressed up. Also, don't take your S/O here on a date unless you're aiming to throw back some drinks. This place probably won't get you a second date unless your personality is fire, bro. This is a quick spot to come with a group of friend and drink margs.

Price: $11 - 25
